On Community and Resilience

Published on December 17, 2025

It’s hard to believe that Giving Docs has been part of the nonprofit community for over ten years – communicating, learning, and growing alongside nonprofits and the solution providers who support them. Over that time, one thing has remained constant: this is a community defined not just by its mission, but by its willingness to show up for one another.

That truth was especially clear to me this year. As I’ve traveled and spent time with nonprofit professionals and industry partners across the country, I’ve been reminded again and again that this is not a crowd that takes their work lightly. We adapt. We envision. We strategize. And most importantly, we collaborate. Even in moments of real strain, the question we’re hearing without exception was not “how bad is it?” but “how do we solve this together?” I consistently came away from these gatherings inspired by the resilience and tenacity of the people we work with.

Of course, this year also brought challenges unlike those we have experienced before. Economic realities have created uncertainty around funding and programs, and the emergence of artificial intelligence is reshaping how nonprofit professionals serve their constituents – work that has been done largely the same way for generations. The impact of these shifts has been felt across organizations of every size, including those we think of as institutions, as well as the for-profit vendors who serve them. None of this is easy, and it would be disingenuous to pretend otherwise.

But what continues to set this sector apart is its sense of community. There is a shared understanding that progress doesn’t happen in isolation. That belief, sometimes quiet, sometimes, urgent is what gives this work its durability.

At Giving Docs, we are profoundly grateful for our partners who face these challenges head-on with curiosity and courage, and for the nonprofit professionals who continue to place their trust in us, even amid shifting budgets and uncertain job security. On a more personal level, I’m deeply grateful for the community we’ve built within our own company – one grounded in open communication, trust, and honesty.

As this year comes to a close, I want to be clear: this isn’t simply a message of gratitude. It’s a reminder for those of us who may be struggling to make sense of a changing landscape. Your community is all around you. And while the path forward may not always be obvious, our best way through has always been, and will continue to be, together.
